Hearing Services of Colorado – Care & Maintenance

Hearing Aids need routine maintenance to help keep them functioning on a daily basis. The following are cleaning procedures we recommend doing every 2-3 months on most newer hearing aids. These items are also excellent things to try if your hearing aid is not working after the battery has been replaced.

CHANGING YOUR DOMES – Change every 2-3 months
The domes on your hearing aid are the small plastic piece on the end of the speaker (receiver). These need to be changed periodically as the can become plugged with wax and oils from your ear canals. We recommend changing these at 2-3 month intervals.

CHANGING YOUR WAX TRAPS – Change every 2-3 months The wax trap is one of the most important parts on your hearing aid for you to maintain regularly. The purpose of the wax trap is to collect wax from your ears and eventually as wax collects, the holes where the sound comes out of will be plugged and your hearing aid may sound quiet or there may be no sound at all.
